Day Five of Class
Today was the most gorgeous and
fun day I have had in a long time. I walk to class and wait in the lobby
of the CLL (Center for Life Long learning…in other words the gym) with my
classmates while Andrea and Mike finish up loading the canoes. When they had finished loading the canoes,
Andrea then talked about where we were going. Then we headed to a storage room
with all the outdoor equipment and grabbed life jackets. Then we jumped in the
vans and headed to Rocky Lake Preserve.
Once we got there, we unloaded the
canoes and broke off into groups. I ended up going in a group with Cameron and
Jonathan. So we went out and just paddled. Then we all got together in a group,
and Andrea and Mike talked about a few of the different strokes and when we
should use them.
We continued on for a couple
hours, stopping to regroup and check up on each other every once in awhile. Then
about 11:30 we landed back at the loading spot and reloaded the canoes. It was
sad that we were done canoeing for the day, but my arms were so tired! We got
back in the vans and headed back to campus. On the way back Andrea talked about
how this spot was open for camping, fishing, canoeing, and many other things. Once
we got back to campus, we broke for an hour long lunch.
We reconvened in the pool to do
stuff with the sea kayaks. I was upset that we weren’t actually sea kayaking,
but for safety reasons it’s understandable. We still had a lot of fun working
in the pool though. We learned how to brace, rollout of the canoe, get in the
canoe in case we capsized in the water, and we even tried to do challenges like
kissing the bow. I wasn’t very good at the last challenge, I kept falling in.
After we had had our fun with the
kayaks, we changed into dry clothes and went and took our final and did the
course evaluation. Then that was it, biking in Acadia National Park tomorrow,
my muscles already hate me.
